The Commercial Data Office (CoDO) team, within Global Commercial Services (GCS), is focused on powering the best customer experience and business growth through streamlined data. With continuous changes in the regulatory environment and innovation through data evolving, CoDO plays a key role in strengthening GCS critical enablers and supporting new growth opportunities. In partnership with the Enterprise Data Office and across GCS, CoDO is tasked with improving existing systems and building new, innovative data solutions for our customers, while adhering to regulations and data management best practices.
How will you make an impact in this role?
TheSenior Manager – Data Risk will report to the Director of Commercial Data strategy within Commercial Data Office (CoDO). This role will work on the end-to-end implementation of Global Commercial Services' data risk management plan.The colleague will beresponsible for research and analysis to assess the current state, creation, and execution of a plan to adhere to policy and design of measures to monitor progress and status.Additionally, the manager will act as the GCS expert for assessing and recommending enhancements to the Enterprise Business Capability Model with respect to data risk management.The person will work closely with other members of the Commercial Data Office, Enterprise Data Office, Data Management Governance and other partners across American Express.
We are looking for an experienced data management specialist with strong data discovery skills, background in data management frameworks, and an understanding of policy and compliance as applied to data and data systems.In this highly visible role, you will partner with leaders from American Express' Federated Data Offices to represent Global Commercial Services while collaborating to develop common practices. A qualified individual for this role must be able to communicate effectively with stakeholders across the organization to understand business processes and usage of data. They will be expected to interpret internal American Express data policies and applicable regulations to establish programs for compliance. This individual should be a curious self-starter who seeks to understand the intention of policies married with GCS' business processes to draw appropriate conclusions and drive execution of the resulting adherence plan.
Collaborate with product managers, product owners, data owners and stewards to document current state against data risk types.
Deliver an assessment of current state status and gaps to senior leadership.
Partner with peers and Commercial Data Office VP to develop recommendations to adhere to the Enterprise Data Risk Management policy.
Partner with Enterprise teams, peers and leaders to develop a multi-year plan to address gaps and bring to life an ongoing management process for data risk.
Contribute to benefits and measurement definitions for the uplift and ongoing management programs.
Minimum Qualifications
5+ years of direct work experience in data management
Experience working with business capability models and data architecture artifacts
Experience understanding, interpreting and assessing adherence to policies and regulations
Experience implementing solutions for data privacy, collection, access and retention policies
Experience working across teams and business units for analysis, recommendations and execution
Ability to work in white space to design and bring to life solutions for solving complex challenges.
Outstanding relationship and influencing skills to collaborate with internal and external partners.
Flexibility and a positive attitude, even when faced with challenges.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience envisioning and rollout of operational programs across diverse distribution channels and user personas.
Familiarity with data governance and quality principals and execution
Experience with data modeling tools and terminologies.
Knowledge of various data base technologies, including data platforms on cloud.
