Functional Description
Enterprise Digital & Data Solutions (EDDS) creates unified digital experiences for prospects and members across the entire customer lifecycle, powered by data and supports AXP growth by designing best-in-class digital & data capabilities and platforms. Within EDDS, Operational Excellence (OE) is responsible for supporting our Enterprise Acquisition, Digital Experiences, Data Governance & Platforms and MarTech Experience functions. Our team supports the business unit manage operational risk, develop new products & features, and respond to evolving regulatory requirements while elevating a risk mindset and culture.
EDDS is seeking a Sr Manager, Risk Reduction to support the business unit enhance processes to mitigate operational risks proactively or when issues arise, and subsequently deploy control strategies to remediate. This role will collaborate extensively with EDDS leaders, Risk ID & Assessment, Issue Management and stakeholders across multiple BUs and lines of defense.
Key Responsibilities:
Collaborate with Product & Process Owners and Risk ID & Issue Management teams to identify and prioritize areas that require risk mitigation measures.
Support the business unit design and document processes and controls, including enhancements to existing processes and controls to enhance proactive operational risk mitigation.
Conduct independent root cause analyses focused on identifying underlying process vulnerabilities to prevent potential operational risks, with a focus on the most common or high-risk issues and/or losses, based on comprehensive methodology (e.g., comprehensive risk-based prioritization) to prevent recurrence, and inform control design/ enhancement.
Provide independent support for resolution of high-risk issues, and conduct independent testing of issues to ensure complete & effective resolution.
Monitor and track the implementation of process changes, ensuring they are effective in reducing risk and align with the risk appetite.
Document learnings from improving controls to elevate the process risk reduction capabilities within the BU and across the enterprise.
Foster a culture of risk awareness and ongoing improvement within the team and the broader organization.
Required Qualifications:
5+ years of financial services-related experience, preferably within Operational Risk, Operational Excellence, Compliance or Internal Audit.
Understanding of operational risk management lifecycle activities.
Excellent project management, communication and collaboration skills.
Proven ability to influence decisions and deliver on shared objectives.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to analyze data, identify trends and evaluate risk scenarios effectively.
Ability to learn quickly, "connect the dots" with a strong track record of developing ideas from concept to deployment and delivering win-win solutions for the business.
Experience operating across multiple market jurisdictions is preferred
