GENERAL SUMMARY:
Candidates for this position will define scope and objectives for technical projects in the area of their specialty, varying in size and complexity. Their day-to-day responsibilities will also include troubleshooting of the applications, systems, and support of the mainframe offering DB2 environment. The working environment requires the candidate to work independently, where guidelines are available but are not always specific. They will also frequently contribute to the development of new theories and methods to resolve applications support issues.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
The candidate will be responsible for delivery, support, system management, and overall functions of the ZOS DB2 environment and supporting applications. This will include troubleshooting, offering resolutions, or resolving technical errors and issues arising from the use of the systems and applications.
The systems include mainframe applications hosting IBM customer data and transmissions; as well as other applications used internally. They are responsible for maintaining a high level of stability and security, while minimizing system outages of the applications and systems supported. They are directly responsible for the planning and are to participate in the maintenance/enhancements of the supported systems.
This candidate will also act as a mentor to other technical engineers and may be asked to act as a project lead where appropriate.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND COMPENTENCIES:
Candidates must be able to work unsupervised and independently seek out and interact with other IBM personnel and outside vendors.
They must also have excellent communications and interpersonal skills.
They must possess a strong knowledge of the zOS DB2 and system environments
