GTEC (Global Technology & Engineering Center) is one of the largest innovation centers for Whirlpool around the world and a critical arm to its global product research and development. The GTEC team contributes incredible ideas and translates them into user-friendly home solutions that have and continue to improve people's everyday lives. The team is instrumental to support the Global Product Organization to deliver product leadership for Whirlpool.
This role in summary
In this role the engineer will have the opportunity to work with stakeholders in the Hardware, Electro-Mechanical, and Subsystem teams on simulation analysis of electronic components / modules. The simulation work will support trade-off analysis, what-if analysis in the early stages of the product development process, with the goal of ensuring delivery of a robust EES module. As a part of this role, the engineer is expected to drive adoption of the current simulation tools, contribute to the identification of gaps in the current capabilities and development of new capabilities.
Your responsibilities will include
Collaborate with hardware / component / subsystem engineers to identify key features impacting thermal performance
Build simulation models for electronic components and modules (either high fidelity models or 1-D models based on the use case)
Set up and instrument lab tests to gather data for model validation, as needed
Plan and execute structured experiments to collect test data, as needed
Analyze simulation results and validate them against test data
Develop reduced-order models in Dymola based on high-fidelity simulation models
Document simulation analyses and effectively communicate findings to relevant stakeholders
Lead FMEA analysis of thermal failures by leveraging simulation tools
Provide Subject Matter Expertise in technical review and toll gate meetings
Active participation in internal technical forums to share and learn about current best practices in simulation
Support identification of gaps in the current capabilities and contribute towards bridging those gaps
Minimum requirements
Bachelor degree in Mechanical or Chemical engineering
10+ years of experience in modeling of thermal systems
Preferred skills and experiences
Advanced degree ( MS / PhD) in Mechanical or Chemical engineering
Experience in simulation of electronic components
Proven planning, thought leadership, and decision-making skills
Demonstrate ability to work both independently and in a team environment
Ability to work with minimal guidance; seeks guidance on only the most complex tasks
Continuous Improvement mindset, ability and desire to improve and streamline processes
Strong analytical, problem-solving & data visualization skills
Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
Able to provide explanations and information to others on difficult issues
Additional information
Experience in use of 1-D simulation tools such as Dymola, Matlab/ Simulink
Experience in using high fidelity thermal simulation tools such as Ansys Fluent and Ansys IcePak
