Global Treasury Operations (GTO)is organized by geographic regions and has global responsibility for cash management, operational funding/investment, foreign exchange exposure management activities, and banking services conducted by the Global Treasury organization. This worldwide team is executing American Express' funding and balance sheet management strategies daily, in a highly controlled manner.
One of the key responsibilities of the regional operations teams is daily cash management to ensure sufficient cash availability at all points of time in 1400+ bank accounts for 180+ legal entities held with 200+ bank partners.
Additionally, Foreign Exchange (FX) exposure clearing for AXP entities is managed out of EMEA (UK) and APAC (India) FX trading desks.
Director – APAC Treasury Operationsleads the Cash management for 13 APAC markets & clearing/hedging FX exposures for restricted currency APAC markets and act as back-up for EMEA GTO in case of Out of Region (OOR) BCP situation.
In addition, for effective and efficient management of daily operations, this role would also be responsible for supporting business projects in the APAC region. For such projects, the incumbent would need to work with multiple stakeholders – within Treasury, across Finance and outside Finance too.
Some of the key customers and services provided by the team that this role leads are:
GMNS APAC - ensure sufficient funding availability daily in merchant payment and network partner settlement bank accounts.
GCSG and GCS APAC - ensure sufficient funding availability daily in disbursal bank accounts for non-card lending portfolio
GSM, Tax, Payroll and TLS – ensure sufficient funding availability on daily basis for Opex settlements
APAC LFO teams & business – Optimize Cost of Funds (COF) by maximizing investible surplus and minimizing borrowings, project COF for Plan, LRP and monthly R&O with commentary around interest rate movements
Some of the key stakeholders that this team works closely with are Global Treasury Controllership, Market Controllership, Bank Services COE, regional GTO teams, GSN (CM remittance operations), Tax, GCO and Secretarial, Legal Entity Management, Global Funding, Fund Transfer Pricing and Global Liquidity Management.
How will you make an impact in this role?
Effectively lead a team of Analysts, Sr Analysts and Assistant Managers in delivering key Treasury operations goals:
Optimizing overall cost of funds for markets
Minimizing idle cash needs for operating business
Keeping FX exposures hedged at all points of time
Stay abreast with new-age technologies & understand process automation tools/techniques to streamline daily cash & FX operations
Effectively engage with and influence external and internal stakeholders while working on cross-functional projects
Specific Responsibilities:
Leading a team consisting of Cash and FX managers, senior analysts, and analysts
Ensure team is well groomed to cover for various systemic and staff loss type BCP scenarios
Ensuring proactive monitoring and hedging of FX exposures to minimize FX risk
Ensuring proactive monitoring of cash flows including forecasting to ensure sufficient liquidity
Identifying opportunities in procedures and controls and recommend ways to improve them
Optimizing efficiencies in daily procedures, including the use of technology
Work with Bank Services COE to ensure all APAC entities have sufficient bank facilities to mitigate operational and liquidity risk
Work with Bank partners on funding and transactional banking strategies to ensure ongoing liquidity, minimize interest expense, and manage interest rate risk
Support audits of APAC Treasury operations processes for both IAG and statutory audits
Qualifications
MBA in Finance or CA/CPA
At least 8 years of relevant work experience in Regional/Corporate Treasury or Bank Treasury or similar financial operations function
Strong understanding of Treasury domain and role it plays in overall Finance organization
Sound knowledge of cash management, international finance and accounting concepts, banking operations, FX, capital markets, money markets and derivative instruments
Knowledge of different funding solutions like Bank borrowings, securitization, overdrafts etc.
Knowledge of bank account structures like physical and notional pools
Knowledge of different FX hedging instruments
Experience with Treasury management systems, like FIS Quantum and FX Trading terminals like Bloomberg/360T/Reuters highly desirable
Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Able to effectively communicate highly technical matters in a clear and concise manner
Able to lead motivate staff and maintain teamwork in a high pressure environment
Excellent interpersonal skills. Able to conduct meetings with colleagues from different levels
