Chemical Process Safety Engineer
POSITION PURPOSE:
We are seeking a highly skilled Chemical Process Safety Engineer to join our Chemical Process Development team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for running the process safety experiments. Mitigating the thermal process safety risk during scale-up by recommending the operating parameter by analysing the generated experimental data.
TASKS AND RESPONSIILITIES:
Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment:
Conduct hazard identification and risk assessments for chemical processes using advanced calorimetric techniques.
Analyse thermal stability and reactivity of chemical substances to identify potential hazards.
Thermal Analysis and Calorimetry:
Operate and maintain ARC, DSC, and other instruments to perform thermal analyses of chemical reactions.
Interpret data from these instruments to determine reaction kinetics, heat generation, Pressurization due to gas release and potential runaway reactions.
Process Safety Evaluation:
Evaluate process safety through calorimetric studies, determining safe operating limits, and assessing the impact of process deviations.
Develop safety protocols and recommendations based on the thermal behaviour of chemical material or process.
Experimental Design and Execution:
Design and execute experiments using ARC, DSC and other instruments to simulate real-world scenarios and assess the safety of chemical processes.
Prepare detailed reports summarizing experimental findings and safety assessments.
Collaboration and Communication:
Work closely with process engineers, R&D teams, and safety personnel to integrate safety assessments into process design and operations.
Present findings and recommendations to stakeholders to inform decision-making and process improvements.
Compliance and Documentation:
Ensure all experiments and safety assessments comply with relevant regulations and industry standards.
Maintain accurate documentation of experimental procedures, data, and safety evaluations.
Training and Mentorship:
Provide training and guidance to juniors and Chemists in the use of Calorimeter, ARC, DSC, instruments.
Promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement within the organization.

Process Engineering Team:
Work closely with process engineers to evaluate the safety of chemical processes, provide input on process design, and recommend safety improvements.
Assist in optimizing processes to enhance safety and ensure compliance with safety standards.
Research and Development (R&D) Team:
Collaborate on the development of new chemical products and processes, providing hazard analysis and safety assessments during the design phase.
EXTERNAL:
Equipment and Technology Vendors:
Liaise with vendors of Calorimeter, ARC, DSC and other safety-critical equipment to ensure proper installation, maintenance, and operation.
Coordinate training sessions with vendors for internal teams on the use of specialized safety equipment.
Industry Peers and Professional Networks:
Engage with peers in the industry through professional organizations, conferences, and seminars to stay informed about the latest developments in process safety.
WHO YOU ARE:
Bachelor's or master's degree in chemical engineering, or a related field.
Minimum 3 to 8 years of experience in process safety engineering, with hands-on experience in thermal analysis and calorimetry.
Strong understanding of chemical kinetics, thermodynamics, and reaction mechanisms.
Proficiency in using Calorimeter, ARC & DSC instruments for chemical process hazard analysis, interpreting the data and writing reports.
Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
Familiarity with relevant safety standards and regulations (e.g., OSHA, ISO, etc.).
Proficient in written and oral communication in English.
